In Memory Of Human Hands

Human came to live with me in February 2000 and quickly won all our hearts.

Here are a selection of pictures charting Human Hands adventures with us !

"You little Scritchit......" 13/01/00 - 13/10/01

Our dearly beloved little Human Hands, the best little hamster in the world, passed peacefully away on his 21st month birthday being cradled in his daddy's hands whilst being lovingly kissed and cuddled, you will always be missed you little scritcher.

Below are listed many of the little antics and quirks of our little Human Hands that entertained us on many an evening and exhausted us too.... here is a typical evening..

Human Hands would wake up and we would hear rustling in his little house as he searched through his pantry for a little morsel he had saved earlier. He would nip downstairs and discreetly visit 'wee corner' then run back to sit in his beauty parlour (underneath his bedroom) where he would sit 'having a wash' preparing himself to meet his public. He always made such a neat pile of his little poos in his front 'lookout window' of his house.

When he was suitably ready he would venture out of his house and do a big 'streeeeeetch' and then come and do a 'High Five' where he would touch paws with his daddy through the bars of the cage.

If he was in a lively mood he would come and sit 'waiting at the old school gate' this is where he would sit by his front door waiting for us to go and let him out for a run ! If we didn't let him out straight away he would climb up for 'Belly Rub' this is where he would squash up against the front of the cage in between the bars and his wheel baring his tummy for a tickle ! If that didn't work he would then climb up so he was lying horizontally on top of his wheel in the ideal 'bum patrol' position - we were always worried about the possibility of wet tail so would grab this opportunity to give him a little inspection :o) then, just to make sure he had our attention he would then start to fall down the other side of the wheel and hold on dangling by his front paws very precariously to cries of 'Don't do it Human Hands' !!! His daddy would then go and catch him and let him out for a run on the floor.

Whilst out on the floor little Human Hands loved to run to 'Danger Corner' this was the corner where our lamp is and also the way for him to possibly get behind the large lounge cupboard - we got wise to this and it was safely blocked off with a book ! Human Hands would then run to his favourite place and scritch at the carpet by the lounge door 'you little scritchit' we would cry as we went to get him to put him back in his cage. He never did quite make it to Australia !

Once back in his cage he would be desperate to get out again, he would go through all the previous steps and perhaps go and 'pretend to have a drink' this is where he would go and sit at his water bottle and have a drink whilst looking at us out of one eye to see if he had our attention ! Recently he learnt a new trick ! When all other attempts failed he would go and stand in front of his wheel facing it and then reach up with his front paws and turn his wheel round really quickly as if he were 'steering the big ship' ! - this would invariably get him straight out for a run !

This sequence of events would carry on relentlessly throughout the evening, sometimes he would get tired and sit like a 'little old man' and keep nodding off so he nearly fell of his first floor ! He would spend time 'filling up his pantry' - squeezing as much food as he could into his cheeks and then unloading his stash into his bed. We would give him little hamster 'pizza' and 'raviolis' which he would carry so proudly around his cage looking for somewhere to hide them.

Sometimes, if he was in a really lively mood his daddy used to let him out of the lounge door and take him on an expedition into the hall or the kitchen, where he would sit and watch his daddy make a sandwich, he loved these little trips out especially !

He was incredible in his capacity to entertain us and to make us understand exactly what he wanted, and he always got it too, he was a lovely little chap and we shall miss him so much, things just aren't the same without him.

We end, with a prayer from my dear friend Tweety, who loved little Human Hands as if he were her own....

My Darling Human Hands,

May the lord hold you in his hands,

Comfort you and take care of you,

Until we meet again,

And remember that love lives forever.

Rest in Peace little one, night night, remember that we love you.x
