If you have a particular plant which is not listed on this page then please ensure you refer to a wild plant book to identify it and see if it is toxic or safe to feed - please err on the side of caution - if you are not 100% positive of your identification or a plants safety then DO NOT FEED TO YOUR PIG ! This page is in no way a complete listing of poisonous plants - I am only including plants that I personally recognise and that I have double checked with the sources listed below, and that are commonly found in English Gardens.

Sources: This page is a work in progress and the list will be extended as my knowledge of wild plants grows. I have currently included only species of plants that I personally recognise. Whilst compiling this page I have consulted several books as follows:

  • Complete British Wildlife / published by Collins: I used this to identify the wild plants.

I also double-checked several reputable 'Cavy' books as I wanted to ensure that the information is correct specifically for Guinea Pigs - I have not included any plants that I have been unable to verify by checking these books:

  • Diseases of Domestic Guinea Pigs 2nd Edition - by VCG Richardson
  • The Really Useful Guinea Pig Guide - by Myra Mahoney
  • Collins Family Pet Guides - Guinea Pig - by Peter Gurney

The Photos used on this page have all been taken by myself either in my garden or places I frequent regularly - hence some missing pics - I'm waiting for certain plants to grow so I can take photos !
