You may find it useful to keep certain records about your guinea pig. Examples of which are listed below...

• How much your piggy weighs - so you can see if she is losing weight etc - I find these scales made by Salter to be ideal, the top bowl is almost exactly piggy shaped ! Weightloss is often one of the first indicators of a health problem
• What Sex your pig is
• When she last had a shampoo - for freshening purposes or parasitic / fungal treatment
• When she last had her nails trimmed - can act as a reminder if you forget to check them
• Last time she had a medical checkup
• Last time she was wormed & whether it was with Panacur / Ivermectin or whatever
• Each time she is poorly - what was wrong and what was the treatment/medicine/dosage etc

Normal weights for adult guinea pigs can really be anywhere between 2lb and 3/3.5lb - depending on the bone structure & build of your piggy - the females are generally at the lower end of this scale, with the boys being that bit heftier ! Just beware of weight fluctuations up or down, which could indicate that your piggy is ill [or pregnant !] - if your pig loses a couple of ounces I'd definatly go and get her examined and would certainly carry out some basic healthchecks.
