In addition to their nice snuggly pen with their comfy newspaper, medibed [soft chopped straw] and hay mattress The Wheekies also have a few other luxury facilities to ensure that they are as warm and as snug as they want to be - especially during the cold winter months where, even though they are indoors, there can be draughts and it can just get plain nippy of a night !

My spare piggy carrier [which Ally & Flick kindly bought with them] containing their microwave snugglesafe heatpad.

I have removed the door from the carrier for easy access - and to ensure they don't shut each other in [not that they'd try to keep each other away from the food bowl of course !] - it sits in the corner of their pen and contains their heatpad which I wrap in a towel [so it's not too hot for them].

I have found that using the piggy carrier is better in the long run than cardboard boxes as it can easily be washed, doesn't get chewed and it doesn't turn into soggy cardboard and have to be thrown away after a couple of days of Billy wee'ing in there ! It also saves a lot of mercy missions nipping in and out of supermarkets trying to find suitable sized boxes. When we first got the heatpad we used it wrapped up and placed in a cardboard box - oh isn't Billy a big fat lump !

Billy and Splat have fun trying to hog the heatpad but they do squidge on it together at the same time too which looks particularly cute !

The heatpad is a marvellous bright pink colour, it is plastic and quite hard [ie not like a normal hot water bottle - more like a solid frisbee] so is easily wipe-overable and doesn't absorb any piggy wee. They havn't attempted to chew it either. You pop it in the microwave for approx 5 mins [refer to instructions on heatpad] and it retains it's heat for hours. I wrap it in a towel which I replace each day. The piggies love to snuggle down onto it in the carrier and are very grateful to their bunny-in-law Jack who bought it for them for Christmas !

Next Billy and Splat demonstrate their 'Treeny' Cavy Cosy - which as it's name suggests was expertly made for them by the wonderful Treen [of Treen's pigs] - Thanks Treen !

A Cavy Cosy is a little pocket of material lined with warm fleece [or similar] for them to snuggle down into - they are wonderful for cuddling piggies in at lap time and can also be left in the pen for them to climb in as they please. Regular rinses in the machine keep them fresh and warm !

Lastly Billy and Splat are snuggled up in their double sleeping bag cosy - plenty of room for them both to cuddle up together - they sleep most nights in here !

This was a surprise present from their 'granny' - it is a lightweight quilted outer layer with a thick fleece interior - it has thick elastic threaded around the opening which helps prop it open for easy getting in and out [fat boy needs all the help he can get !]. You should see the poops I have to shake out of it in the morning ! This was made out of a couple of old jackets which were about to be thrown out !

A sleeping bag made for two .... Awwww !
